Cupping
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that is based on the belief that certain health problems can be caused by stagnant blood and a poor energy flow throughout your body.
Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups that are typically made of glass or silicone on your skin in the area(s) of discomfort for a few minutes to create suction. Cupping can help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
A Cupping Practictioner will either leave the cups in place, or slide them around using lotion or oil for the best results for your individual concerns.
The pressure that the cups create draws blood to the affected area, increasing your blood flow overall and creating a healing effect. That increased blood flow can relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. Generally, cupping is used to treat chronic pain—back pain, muscle pain and headaches. It’s all about getting rid of musculoskeletal pain, which is often a physical manifestation of chronic stress.
More often than not, that chronic stress manifests in how you carry yourself. We’re often tensing our muscles when we’re stressed—especially when we’re hunched over our computers and our phones—and that muscle tension can result in physical pain, which is what cupping helps reduce.
Something to keep in mind: Those cups usually leave big, hickey-like bruises on your skin that can last anywhere from a few days to two weeks—so keep that in mind when scheduling your appt in the event you have a special event and that a particular of your skin may be exposed or revealed.
